1. What do you plan to do with your bio major?

Honestly, I’m not 100% sure, but I’d like to get into either the genetics field with it (so a geneticist), or evolutionary biology (a researcher of some kind.). Also, I was looking at a website for information about Biology majors and it said that a possible career would be Forensic Scientist, which would be awesome. Really, I want to do something that I enjoy and am interested in, as well as something that can make a difference in the world somehow and there are so many possibilities for that with a Bio major. :)

2. What's the best thing about thunderstorms?

The intensity. Everything about a thunderstorm is full out power—the rain is just pouring from the sky, the thunder is LOUD and the lightning is blinding...I think there’s something beautiful about that combination and that despite the fact that it’s so intense and powerful there’s something rather calming about them at the same time.

3. What got you into KPop?

I wouldn’t say I’m really “into KPop” mainly because the only band in KPop that I really know about and love 200% is Super Junior—-but I’m definitely getting into other bands in the genre, such as DBSK, A’ST1 and SS501.

I first heard of Super Junior from Rauren/songmuse ~~aka the person who is brainwashing me into liking KPop~~, and I looked them up on Wikipedia out of curiousity, once, and then I saw that there were thirteen of them in the band, and I was like, yeahhh that’s way too many people. So then I went onto other things and forgot about them for awhile...

Then the Beijing Olympics rolled around. And I watched this MV that was promoting the Beijing Olympics—-I posted <ahref="http://gnotted.livejournal.com/25387.html">an entry</a> about it (there’s actually two entries, because I posted it through youtube first, but I got tired of waiting for it to show up, so then I used the embed feature on LJ. The original post that I made through youtube finally did show up, like two weeks later.)...

One thing that I noticed was all the comments about HanGeng/Hankyung while browsing comments and English subtitles (for my post) and I was curious as to who he was, since I kept on hearing about him over and over again. Someone pointed him out in the youtube comments, I watched it again...
And I seriously fell in love. After that, I just had to find out more about HanGeng, that inevitably lead me to watching Super Junior FullHouse and after that, the rest is history. All thirteen members (and Henry and Zhou Mi!) have somehow found a way into my heart and I just think they’re amazing and I admire and love them all (for different reasons). If I was to explain all of the reasons why I love Super Junior, this post would be way too long, so I won't do that.

(In case if anyone is curious, my top 5 favorite members are Han Geng, Kyuhyun, Zhou Mi, Henry and Kibum. If you don't include Henry and Zhou Mi, because they're technically only part of the supgroup Super Junior Mandarin, then I would pick Han Geng, Kyuhyun, Kibum, Donghae and Eunhyuk as my favorites. My favorite subgroup is the aforementioned Super Junior M, and my favorite songs are At Least I Still Have You, In My Arms, U and Wonder Boy.)

4. Which parts of your heritage show up in your life? Do you speak Chinese, eat Chinese food or regularly meet with other Chinese people?

Mandarin Chinese was actually the first language that I learned how to speak at home, but once I hit elementary school I slowly stopped speaking it, until I didn’t speak Chinese at all. My mom still talks in Mandarin when we’re having a conversation, so I actually understand Mandarin pretty well but my speaking skills aren’t so good. I can say a few phrases here and there, but I’m definitely not fluent in talking. I’m even worse with writing and reading—I can write my Chinese name, as well as a couple of basic words but that’s about it.
I can’t understand Canto(nese) at all, though my father’s side are all Canto speakers. I think it doesn’t sound as nice as Mandarin, so I don’t really want to speak it but understanding it would be nice, haha.

I eat and love Chinese food a lot. I like more traditional/authentic stuff rather than lemon chicken/sesame chicken/whatever chicken. My parents can both cook, so I grew up eating Chinese vegetables/dishes just as often as I ate western dishes (actually, maybe even more often). I also go out to eat dim sum and at other Chinese restaurants when I’m at Chinatown with family. Some of my favorites are: beef chow fun (stir fried beef and rice noodles), peking duck (actually, just about any type of roast duck), anything with shiitake mushrooms, hot and sour soup, fengzhao (dim sum chicken feet), duck egg and pork congee/pidan shourou zhou (congee is rice porridge), jiaozi (Chinese dumplings), poststickers/guotie (panfried dumplings)...

As for meeting with Chinese people, the area where I grew up (Westman Manitoba) wasn’t exactly known for being an Asian cultural centre. There were a couple of Asian families in my school, and I was friends with the girls. My closest friends weren’t Asian though, but a couple of them love anime and Japanese culture.

I think part of the reason why I’m not so involved in Chinese culture is because I grew up in a Western society and country, but I really hope that moving to Vancouver will let me be more involved in that and that I can learn more about my heritage and background. I want to become fluent in Mandarin, and also I would like to learn how to read and write in Chinese.

5. Why are you going to your current university?

UBC is ranked one of the Top Three universities in Canada and Top 40 in the world. The fact that it’s ranked so high was a definite factor, as well as the fact that the campus is absolutely gorgeous. Also, it’s not in Manitoba...I don’t hate Manitoba, actually I’ve had definite moments of homesickness and missing Manitoba a lot, but it’s not exactly a culture centre, and I wanted a fresh start. (and I think I'll love it here)

I'm still on hiatus, but I'm at future shop, and there's actual internet here, so I just wanted to check in. :) I'm staying at a family friend's house at Coquitlam (near Vancouver). Don't have a permanent place with internet yet, so my hiatus is still continuing.

99. life couldn't get better (a miracle ~)

I'm seeing a "post 10 things that make you happy! meme" floating around the flist, so I shall do that now:

1. I had a talk with Tylor on Sunday, and one yesterday. It went well, much better than one would think. The obligatory break up talk was on Sunday, and just a regular chit-chat friend talk on Monday. I'm so relieved that everything is going smoothly, and I definitely think that I made the right decision in breaking up with him because it feels so right that we're "just friends" now.

2. My money issues for university are resolved! Hooray.

3. I talked to two of my good friends, ones that I haven't talked to since July/the beginning of summer. We promised to keep in touch, and I'm optimistic that it'll happen.

4. qmiaday. why do they have to be so cute? <3 Seriously.

5. Super Junior in general, because they are so dorky/adorable/hot/spazzy/fun/whatever. (they've taken over my brain, I think. I even want to write fanfic for them, and I haven't written fanfic in years. ahh)

6. Getting email about orientation for UBC. I'm pumped and nervous for it.

7. I had bbq/roast duck, from Chinatown yesterday and today, and it was delicious. I love duck, and I haven't had it in ages. I love real, authentic Chinese food.

8. It is cloudy, which means possible thunderstorm!

9. Seeing some beautiful stock photography/icons on my flist :)

10. My flist, in general. :)

So, this is probably my last entry for awhile because tomorrow is my last day in Winnipeg, before I head out to Vancouver, and I'll be busy running around, packing, getting last minute stuff ready..
Basically, life is fantastic right now. This is the end of a chapter in my life, and I'm happy to end it on a high(er) note. :)

I already posted once today, but oh well.
Stolen from oursoliloquies: Write 3 facts, 2 quirks and 2 habits about yourself. ~~Tag 8 People~~:

Facts:
- I’m one of those slow-walking people that others hate. And if people complain, then I just walk slower. haha
- I’m terrified of drowning, which is why I don’t like swimming. I do know how to swim (I‘m at level 6/7 when it comes to swimming lessons), but I wouldn’t go swimming unless if I absolutely have to.
- I get dizzy easily and I get nausea from being dizzy. Hence the reason why I don’t do very well in fairs.
Quirks:
- I never completely fill my userpic space up on live journal, I always leave one slot empty. Idk why I do that, but it bothers me if I have all of them filled.
- I always have to have some hair hanging down/framing my face when I put my hair into a ponytail/updo because I hate how my ears stick out.
Habits:
- Once I get attached to a song, I play it repeatedly for days, until I get sick of it and find a new song that I like. Then the cycle repeats.
- I bite my nails, and once all my nails are bitten I bite the skin off my lip instead.

In other news:
- It was pouring and thundering outside and it made me happy. I even did a happy dance : )
